Part 5: The Heat is On

Hi everyone! Welcome to another episode of Write a Medium Story in 10 Minutes or Less! This is a weekly series where I use a one word writing prompt and continuely write for 10 minutes. Here are the rules.
Pick a random word. You can use https://randomwordgenerator.com/
Think about the word for 3 minutes and say it out loud a few times.
Write continuously for 10 minutes. Don’t stop until the timer runs out!
That’s it! Anything else goes! Just write whatever comes to mind for 10 minutes without stopping. Are you ready for this week’s story? Let’s go!
Word of the week — Heat
Jack had always been a good man. He went to church on Sundays, helped him elderly mother take out the trash and drive her to hospital appointments, and even watched the neighbor's dog when they went out of town.
He was 45, balding, and a teacher at the local high school. His fair complexion and tattooed right arm might give you a since of a gang member, but I can promise he has never been in a fight, he always made good grades in school, and has never been anywhere near a gang.
On this particular drive into school, Jack was stopped at a red light waiting to get on the highway. He flipped through the radio stations and found a great song from his youth. He bobbed his head back and forth remembering the great times he had. Friends, lovers, parties, and everything in between. It had been a great time and he looked forward to growing old gracefully. The light turned green.
As he pulled through the intersection, he felt a sharp pain in his left side and remembered hearing a horn honk afterward. He closed his eyes as the pain rushed from his left side to his head and slowly faded. When he opened his eyes, he discovered he wasn’t in his car anymore. In fact, he wasn’t anywhere he had ever been before.
Jack now stood in a white room that seemed to have no end. He turned around a few times only to see the same empty, white, void. He looked down and his clothes had changed into white robes. There was no pain on his side and his head no longer hurt. He called out, “Hello?”
A woman appeared. ‘Hi there! Welcome to heaven! I know you probably have a lot of questions, and we’ll have all the time in the world for that, but first how are you feeling?”
“Woah! Uh, I feel…fine, I guess. I’m dead?”
“Of course, you are. How else would you get here? I’m Sally your orientation assistant and I’ll be taking you to your own personal forever home!” Sally had red hair, dark brown skin, and was wearing a white dress. She had simple gold ring on her left ring finger and was holding a clipboard with a pencil stuck behind her right ear.
“Oh geez. Um. Ok Sally. Nice to meet you. So, no questions? I have so many!”
“Yes, I know,” Sally said. “You humans always do!” She chuckled.
They walked for several minutes not saying a word. Jack thought of everything that would happen on Earth without him. What will happen to his mom now? Who will take care of her? He guessed that wasn’t up to him.
Suddenly a home appeared in front of them made out of gold. “Here it is,” Sally stated pleasantly.
“Holy shit!” said Jack.
“The house is pretty big and should be to your liking,” said Sally. “Multiple stories, a swimming pool in the back, and 20 rooms for all kinds of activities. Forever.”
Excited, Jack reached for the door and turned the knob.
“Hey Sally…this doorknob is hot. I can feel the heat through the handle…”
— timer stopped —
So, what do you think will happen to Jack? I have a great idea of where I want to take him next week, but we will have to wait and see what the word generator gives me.
Join me again next week for part 6 of, Write a Medium Story in 10 Minutes or Less!
