Quick Thoughts and Small Wins on Substack
First impressions about my time so far and I catch an early writing win!
Surprise Opportunity
Yesterday, I received an email regarding my previous article, My Son is a Volcano I Can Steer but Never Control. An editor at YourTango, a lifestyle blog, saw the article and wants to republish it on their website! I, of course, said yes as long as I was credited and given a short bio as well.
I've never been asked to have a story republished before, and I’m thrilled to have been asked. If anyone on the editorial team over there reads this, thank you again from the bottom of my heart.
To my subscribers here, exciting times are ahead! I’ve only been on Substack for two days and seem to be connecting with great writers. I forgot how fun it can be not to know anyone. Everything is new and exciting. Names and faces are unique, and I no longer know who the “popular” people are.
Subtack updates
I’ve customized the domain name to this website to www.thetaoistcorner.com, and it continues to work…kind of. I’m trying to transfer it to a different domain registrar because Wix won’t allow me to change the root domain. In English, that means you have to use www before the address. Eventually, I think I can transfer it to somewhere I can. Growing pains.
Speaking of pain, I sat down with Medium staff yesterday to discuss the boost nomination pilot and our concerns as members. The discussion did little to alleviate problems. If anything, we find bandaids to problems they create and are told that the real solutions are several months away at the earliest. This is the reason to push even harder here.
This week, I’m still working on using Notes, living inside two writing platforms, and customizing everything the way I like. I’m also working hard at my full-time job to set up my team for success as I take the next week off of work to be at home with my children. But don’t worry, I have some great ideas for articles next week, and I can’t wait to share them with you!
Thank you for holding on, and I want to leave you with something I’ve been thinking about the last few days with everything that’s occurring in my family and my writing career.
Quick Thoughts
I’m pushing further and faster than ever with my writing, but I must remember that rolling down a hill takes no effort. If I’m struggling, then it’s time to let go and allow the water to settle. Muddy water becomes clear when left alone, so sometimes it’s helpful to do nothing and allow nature to take its course.
I don’t want to overburden myself with too much responsibility, which can easily lead to burnout. Instead, I want to provide a real benefit for everyone who comes upon my work.
I hope you all do the same. Let your work speak for itself by leaving it alone. When you complete your task, walk away and don’t worry about what you can’t control afterward. Worrying about yesterday is folly—we call it regret. Worrying about tomorrow is anxiety. Focus on today and live your life.
Today, many people around the world did not wake up even though they fell asleep believing they would. Be thankful you’re here, awake, alive, and able to enjoy the outdoor sun and the breeze. Let the air fill your lungs, feel the grass beneath your feet, and walk forward. It’s the only path available.
Thank you so much for joining me and reading!
Leave a comment and let me know what you think of The Taoist Corner so far. Do you like the colors and the layout? Is it awful? What would you like for me to write about?
If you’d like to help support me, please consider becoming a paid subscriber. It would mean so much to me and really help me continue to help others through my work.
Such exciting things in your world, Patrick. May your journey be fulfilling, joyful and bring peace to your soul. ✌🏽
