The Stewart family, to be precise, has come to England. We aren’t your typical tourists, and I apologize right now for my children. We are semi-loud, and in need of some good food, good scenery, and feet that don’t hurt every day. Please join me on our 8-day trip to England and France over the next seven days!
Day One
The goal for today was to get to the Airbnb and find food. The plane flight was ok.
Leaving late at night is much better than leaving earlier because you can easily fall asleep. When you wake up and it’s noon, your body just feels like you overslept…kind of. It seems to have worked so far as I don’t have jetlag at all unlike my trip to Italy for work a few years ago where I had jetlag for the entire week.
We had to walk around London for a few blocks dragging our luggage around until we found the apartment. One thing I immediately miss about home is flat and smooth sidewalks as well as straight city blocks. Eventually, we found the apartment, dropped our bags, and tried not to fall asleep.
The apartment is nice! It’s just like a movie! Stairs as soon as you walk in, living room and kitchen on floor two, bedrooms and a bathroom of floor three. There are so many stairs I thought I would just sleep on the couch so I didn’t have to climb them each day.
Harrod’s
First up on the sites to see was Harrods. I didn’t know exactly what Harrods was except that it was “a mall.” Oh dear. If I had only know “mall” meant the richest, fanciest, most expensive mall you’ve ever seen maybe I wouldn’t wave warn a blue t-shirt that said “Google Cloud” on the front with an Apple baseball cap. I’ve never felt so out of place.
Try to think of any mall you’ve visited, but make everything gold, Egyptian-themed, and then raise the price of a hamburger to $40.
After ogling at gold-plated iPhones, Shoe Heaven (that’s actually the name of the store), and the most decorated escalators you’ve ever seen, we Ubered back to the apartment to crash.
If you’ve never traveled overseas, you don’t understand the struggle of falling asleep when your body thinks it’s 3 PM. After some sleep meds and trying to relax as best I could, the first day finally came to an end.
Tomorrow, we start with the changing of the guard, Westminster Abbey, and the London Eye! Look for more pictures tomorrow!
