What a powerful share, Patrick! I was rooting for you and your family all along and watched pa-bear protecting his son.

Thank you for showing us what's possible when we are tuned in to our children's needs. Thank you for showing up so fully for your son and your family. You are an amazing father and human. 👌👍🙏

I’m sorry you had this experience with your son. There are some principals who don’t understand or respect accommodations being made to help children with ADHD.

My daughter discovered she had undiagnosed ADHD in University but she started having severe anxiety in eighth grade. I pulled her from school and we homeschooled her through Grade Twelve.

She got scholarships to cover each year of University however we noticed that she struggled to read and write in her third year. Using campus resources she had a full assessment done and she was prescribed medication for the first time. The success for her was a phenomenal relief. ADHD presents differently for each person.

You are your son’s advocate and it’s exhausting to educate the world about ADHD and your son over and over again. But every time you do advocate for him and his right to be helped to learn. Sometimes the greatest challenge is the complete ignorance of people to learn new ways to help a child.

Thanks for writing this story.
