Call me Ishmael. No, on second thought, just call me Patrick, but no ‘Pat,’ please, or my mom will freak out.
I’ve taken 40 trips around the sun so far, and I live in Fort Worth, Texas. I’ve been writing off an on most of my life. Although I usually write in private journals, I have, on occasion, written publicly. I even self-published a book of poetry recently. From LiveJournal, Blogger, WordPress, my personal website, and now Medium, I’ve always wanted to use my stories to help people. From what I’ve read, that seems to be what everyone else wants to do too, so horary for being the same. ONE OF US! ONE OF US!
My Medium account dates back to 2015, but I didn’t start writing until late February 2023. After using Mastodon for a few months, I began to notice that more people wanted to read my writing, and I wanted a method to interact with my readers other than on one social network, so I joined Medium, moved some of my stories over, and here I am!
I write about Taoism, spirituality, beliefs, and my personal struggles with cancer, tinnitus, my family, faith, and friends. I’ve been a self-proclaimed Taoist (pronounced dao-ist) for nearly five years, although the journey began as a child with the discovery of the Yin-Yang as a preteen.
I’ve studied under George Thompson, who trained under Master Gu of the Wudang Taoist Wellness Academy located in the Wudang mountains of China. I follow him pretty closely on his community website Wayfinders.Global.
I’m pretty busy nowadays with raising three children under the age of 14, a wife, two dogs, and a full-time job as a customer support manager for a popular e-learning platform. I work from home, so I have spare time to write and maintain my own Medium publication called The Taoist Online.
The Taoist Online started as a personal moniker that I thought I could use on social media and help promote my work, but it quickly outgrew me and has become a much bigger undertaking. There are currently 12 writers, editors, and community helpers in the publication, and we keep adding new people every other day! I’m so thrilled to be a part of something exciting that’s helping to make a difference in readers' lives.
I was even able to crowdfund enough money to apply for a trademark from the US government! It’s completely crazy, and I’m not sure I even understand what is happening, but if it can even help one person, then it’s worth it for me.
I also closely follow the space industry, playing drums and piano and learning. When I was in school, I would comment to my friends about how our education was up to us when we graduated. No one would tell us what to learn since we would finally be in control. Now 15 years later, I’m still drinking as much wine… I mean knowledge… as I can.
I’m not sure who is going to read this, but that’s me in a nutshell. Or is this me in nutshell?
